Sasquatch Sunset

Consistently weird and frequently wonderful, “Sasquatch Sunset” uses its high-concept premise to consider a host of themes: collective living, coexistence with nature, longing stirred by seclusion.

It's brilliantly filmed, constantly maintains our interest, boasts first-rate prosthetics, and is completely distinct from whatever else is found at the box office. [Full review in Spanish]

A tedious, patience-trying exercise, and the film's juvenile reliance on scatological and anatomical humor grows tiresome.

It’s easy to forget that these are purely mythical creatures; the way the film is made, they seem more like some prehistoric version of mankind, evolving on the go.

Godspeed to those who will embrace its epic-level gross-out factor. I guess I’m just more of a Bucky Badger guy.

A little bit of Bigfoot lore goes a long way (it really does get gross), but the beauty of Sasquatch Sunset is how it depicts humans as mysterious intruders in their world, not the other way around.

These gross-out gags become repetitive and creates some tonal confusion that really hurts the film. It goes from something that has a lot of potential to just a mediocre and forgettable comedy unworthy of a second watch.

The Zellner brothers have certainly made something that can allow people to have reactions. Whether they have made something that actively provokes a meaningful response or that is packed with meaning is another matter entirely. And that matter is fecal.

A little of what the Zellners are dishing out goes a long way.

Just because characters rut and grunt does not make it feel like a comedy so if you are going for big laughs, you may find them. If you want to be depressed, then this movie is for you.
