Late Night with the Devil

The cast makes Late Night With the Devil more than watchable, but they also raise our hopes for something better.

The Cairnes cite Sidney Lumet’s Network as an influence and I’m not surprised. They have come up with a worthy successor.

Its smart use of mostly practical effects work and its disciplined approach makes for a sometimes tense, often funny and always impressive horror film that even scaredy cats will appreciate.

An inventive and thoroughly entertaining pulp horror movie.

It’s wonderfully creepy and unnervingly familiar, like Alan Partridge by way of The Exorcist. If that doesn’t automatically enter it into the pantheon of classic midnight movies, I don’t know what does.

A story in which there is no shortage of allusions to classics such as “The Exorcist” and “Carrie”, but which has its own identity, keeps us constantly in suspense and leads to an absolutely brilliant final scene.

Some of the writing doesn't work, but the film's 70 aesthetics are great and David Dastmalchian gives one of the best performances of the year.

Late night with the devil deliciously balances skepticism versus belief through interesting characters and dynamics.
