Two strangers (an American fellow, and a hot French girl) me...( read more)et on a train, are instantly attracted to each other, and spend the rest of the movie chatting while falling in love. They both know that at sunrise, they must go their separate ways and (most likely) never see each other again. Yup, nothing happens in this movie except for those two conversing with each other, as they walk the streets of Vienna. Sounds boring right? Nope. The dialogue is always interesting, and I found myself rooting for the two to get physical - and I only do that when I really like the characters in such a movie, otherwise I wouldn't care. The ending is a surprise, and I liked that the film didn't have such a cliched ending. If Richard Linklater was here, I'd shake his hand - this movie puts almost all chick flicks to shame. If you watch this movie, you MUST see its sequel, Before Sunset.

I figured I'd do a review of this movie now, because by tomo...( read more)rrow I'll forget everything about it. I'd have to say it's one of those "forgettable" movies that don't stay with you because it's not good or bad enough to properly register in your mind. Anyway, the movie is about a teenage girl, who is skilled in writing poetry. Her parents' divorce was very hard on her. She also has a strained relationship with her mother, and the girl wants to live with her father. Something I found unusual was that the girl didn't seem to be too upset when a family member dies - but I suppose it's possible that she just repressed her feelings, as some people are inclined to do, but it's also possible I just don't remember any grief that she showed. Anyway, I found it strange that even after that person's death, she still seemed more upset about her parents' divorce. And she also has an uncomfortably close relationship with her English teacher. Now all that should add up to a good movie, but it doesn't - it's not exactly a boring film, but with all those plot elements I expected it to captivate me from the very beginning, and it didn't. The film's main flaw is that the girl IS NOT a sympathetic character - she's a brat, and after she turns to a life of crime I had no sympathy whatsoever for her. Alright, I'll admit I exaggerated when I said a "life of crime", but seeing her engage in various criminal activities kind of made me angry. Perhaps I should have pitied her, considering what happens between her and the teacher near the end of the movie. I don't think the movie wants us to pity the girl (until the end), but I think the movie would've had a lot more punch if she wasn't such a brat.

This time, Shyamalan made a movie that failed. It should not...( read more) be that bad, if he can build an original story here becomes a very biting thriller. Unfortunately, Shyamalan simply telling a story that should be an element of sensation, but filmed with just flat. The film was finally passed at the cinema!!!
