flixster.actor.standard.03.405674212 - flixster

Stargate SG-1; The Ark of Truth; Continuum

1997-2008
Saturn Award -
Best Supporting Actress on Television (2005)
Character back story: Samantha Carter's father was also in the Air Force, and was not around a lot when she was a child. Her mother died in a car accident when she was a teenager. Before joining the Stargate Program, Captain Carter worked at the Pentagon. She has a Ph.D. in theoretical astrophysics
Inspiration for character:
Occupation: United States Air Force officer and member of SG-1:

  • Captain (1.01–3.03)
  • Major (3.03–8.02)
  • Lt. Colonel (8.02–10.20; The Ark of Truth)
  • Colonel (Atlantis 4.01–Continuum)
Personality type: Extremely hard working and dedicated. She enjoys her work as a scientist and often stays in her lab during her time off. A very brave soldier who has risked her life several times for her teammates and for strangers in need. A lot of the time she speaks over peoples heads in techno babble and sometimes thinks too literally.
Signature look: Short blonde hair
Resides: Owns a house in Colorado Springs.
Relationships: Samantha's father was a Major Gen. when she discovered he had cancer. She offered him the opportunity to become a Tok'ra. Jacob became a very important member of the Tok'ra resistance and ally to Earth. Jacob died when his symbiote died of old age.
Sam has a brother, Mark, with two children, who had a strained relationship with their father ever since their mother died, but they eventually reconciled.
Sam is good friends with her teammates and seems especially close to Teal'c and Col. Mitchell.
Gen. Jack O'Neill has had a special place in her heart for a long time. They were forced to admit their feelings for each other in season four. Sam eventually got engaged to a friend of her brother several years later, who she dated to help her move on. The attempt failed. Sam broke off the engagment and went straight to Jack's house, but unfortunately walked in on him having a date of his own. Sam still occasionally speaks of O'Neill, but nothing else is known.
Sam has had several other love interests, mainly Narrim, a Tollan ally, and Martouf, a member of the Tok'ra resistance.
Sam rescued a young girl, Cassandra, from a planet that had been destroyed by the Goa'uld in season 1. Although she was adopted by Dr. Fraiser, they remain close.
Fun facts/trivia: Sam was host to a Tok'ra named Jolinar for a short time and still retains some of her memories. Jolinar was Martouf's lover.
She owns a motorcycle and a silver Volvo P1800.

Dr. Helen Magnus
flixster.actor.standard.03.405674212 - flixster

Sanctuary

2007-2008
Leo Award -
Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series "Requiem"
Character back story: Helen was one of the first female doctors and scientists of the Royal College of Surgeons in the 1880s. Frustrated by the male members of the Board of Directors, she asked her father, Dr. Gregory Magnus, to teach her his private research concerning abnormals. She became a proficient researcher and met other paranormal scientists. They called themselves "The Five". They discovered that, if injected with pure vampire blood, anyone could gain abilities and become an abnormal. They were all injected and received unique abilities. Helen gained a form of longevity. She also became romantically involved with John Druitt, a fellow member of The Five. But his ability drove him mad and he became Jack the Ripper; not before they conceived a child, Ashley (who was born over a century later because she was kept as an embryo in stasis until Helen was ready). Afterwards, she constructed the Sanctuary, a series of facilities around the world designed as safe refuge or secure confinement for abnormals; with the Sanctuary in New York City serving as her headquarters.
Inspiration for character:
Occupation: Scientist and Sanctuary leader.
Age: 157, born around 1850, making her approx. 38 at the time of injection.
Personality type: Extremely intelligent, likely genius. A strong take charge woman, but kind at heart, having dedicated her life to helping abnormals.
Signature look: Sophisticated dress with Victorian twist.
Resides: Sanctuary NYC
Relationsips: Father, Gregory Magnus who is somehow still alive.

Daughter, Ashley Magnus, is, surprisingly, the muscle of her mother's operation.

Ex-fiance, John Druitt, who recently began to show there is still some of the original man left in him.

Other members of The Five:
Nikola Tesla - Vampire. Untrustworthy.
Dr. James Watson - Deceased. Good friend to the end.
Nigel Griffin - Deceased
