Bratt's mother was a Peruvian Quechua, born in Lima, who moved to the U.S.A. at age 14. Born in San Francisco, CA, Benjamin Bratt attended Lowell High School, where he found is passion for the dramatic as a member of the Lowell Forensic Society. Bratt went on to earn a B.F.A. at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Although accepted into the masters at the American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco, CA, he left before receiving his degree to star in the television series, Juarez, which never aired.
Bratt's early television stardom came from his role of Detective Rey Curtis on Law & Order. The character's Mestizo ancestry, a mix of Native Peruvian and German-English backgrounds, was the same as Bratt's. In 1999, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on this series. In 2008, Benjamin's television popularity rose to new levels when he took on the role of William Banks in The Cleaner. Ben has now shot a second season of The Cleaner which is even better than the first. Sadly, though A&E has not picked up the show for a third season. It was announced October 23, 2009 that Bratt has signed on with Law & Order to guest star as Detective Rey Curtis in an upcoming episode. Ben's popular early films include Miss Congeniality, Abandon and Traffic. Some may remember him in the failed Catwoman with Halle Barry. More memorable were his film roles in Thumbsucker, Love in the Time of Cholera, and The Andromeda Strain. La mission, written and directed by his brother Peter Bratt, is probably Ben's most controversial role to date. Released in September 2009, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was Ben's first animated feature as the uncommunicative cameraman Manny.
On April 12, 2002, Benjamin married actress Talisa Soto, whom he met while filming Piero. Their first child, daughter Sophia Rosalinda Bratt, was born on December 6, 2002. Their second child, son Mateo Bravery Bratt was born on October 3, 2005 in Los Angeles. | ||||
