She attended Marymount Secondary School, later on she attended Rosaryhill School. It is not entirely clear where she completed the rest of her schooling or ever attended post-secondary education like her Twins-partner Gillian Chung. In 2001, she was offered to form the Emperor Entertainment Group musical group Twins with Chung (colloquially known as Gill). Choi since then has been come to known as Charlene, or simply Ah-Sa.
