Character Quotes & Catchphrases
Paul Kersey: Nothing to do but cut and run, huh? What else? What
about the old American social custom of self- defense? If the police don`t defense us, maybe we ought to do it ourselves.

If we`re not pioneers, what have we become? What do you call people who, when they`re faced with a condition or fear, do nothing about it they just run and hide?

Character back story:
The Film opens at an isolated train station in Arizona. The Station master is changing the expected arrival time of a train to show that it will be late. Three gunmen arrive at the station with an ambience of tension and foreboding. They wait, trying to occupy themselves. Eventually, the train arrives, and only a man playing a Harmonica (Charles Bronson) disembarks. He asks for Frank, but the three men have been sent instead. A showdown ensues. The man who was playing the harmonica is the only survivor. On the remote farm Sweetwater, Brett McBair and his children prepare a feast for the arrival for his new life, Jill. Frank(Henry Fonda) and his gang emerge from the desert and kill of four McBains.

Fun facts/trivia:
Henry Fonda originally turned down a role in the picture. Director Sergio Leone flew to the United States and met with Fonda, who asked why he was wanted for the movie. Sergio replied:
  • "Picture this: the camera shows a gunman from the waist down pulling his gun and shooting a running child. The camera pans up to the gunman`s face and...
  • it`s Henry Fonda."
Until then, and with one exception, Fonda had only been cast in "good guy" roles. Leone wanted the audience to be shocked.
