Realizing the success of the first Rush Hour film, Tucker held out from studio bosses until they paid his price tag of $20 million for Rush Hour 2, which also became an enormous success. Co-star Jackie Chan received $15 million and gross points. Tucker also appeared in Michael Jackson's video "You Rock My World" (2001).

In 2005, Tucker participated in African American Lives, a PBS program hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. where his roots were traced back to a tribe living in Angola. Tucker would also travel to Angola, the birthplace of his ancestors with Gates.

On April 19, 2005, Tucker was arrested by Georgia State Troopers in McDuffie County for reckless driving and fleeing to elude after he did not pull over right away. Sheriffs claimed he was driving 109 mph in his 2005 Bentley. Tucker claimed he was in a hurry because he was late for church. Currently, Tucker continues to perform stand-up comedy.
