Bruce Wayne

Also Batman
Character back story: Orphaned as a boy when his parents were shot during a botched mugging, millionaire Bruce Wayne grew up full of anger and guilt, with a strong desire for justice. Unsatisfied with the way society handles the problem of crime, Wayne traveled the world, seeking the means to exact his own method of justice- to circumvent the flaws in the system and see to it that no one else would suffer the same pain he went through. Learning to master his childhood fears through the tutelage of Ra's Al Ghul, the leader of a secret sect of vigilante crime-fighters, Bruce would return to his home town of Gotham City to turn fear against those who would prey on the fearful as the Batman.
Inspiration for character: Dracula, Zorro, the Bat, Leonardo Da Vinci.
Age/Occupation: 30's/Millionaire Philanthropist
Personality type: Focused, determined, secretive.
Signature look: Black cape and horned cowl, black body suit, scalloped black gloves, black leather boots, golden utility bely.
Resides: Wayne Manor, located on the outskirts of Gotham City.
Character connections: Works closely with Commissioner James Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), romantically interested in Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes/Maggie Gyllenhaal), closest confidant is loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine). Enemy to all criminals of Gotham City, and former student of militia leader Ra's Al Ghul (Liam Neeson).
Fun facts/trivia: Due to his part in The Machinist, Christian Bale was vastly underweight (about 120 pounds on his 6 foot+ frame) when he was under consideration for the part. After being cast, he was told to become as "big as you could be" by Christopher Nolan. Bale underwent a dietary and exercise regimen and ending up weighing about 220 pounds (about 40 pounds above his normal weight). It was decided that Bale had became too large (friends of his on the film's crew dubbed him "Fatman") and he quickly shed about 20 pounds to have leaner, more muscular frame.

Christian Bale lost his voice three times during the filming of Batman Begins after altering his voice to portray Batman's throaty growl.

Character Quotes & Catchphrases
  • Bats frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread.
  • They told me there was nothing out there, nothing to fear. But the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something. I've looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness. Something terrifying. Something that will not stop until it gets revenge. Me.
  • It's not who I am underneath, but what I do, that defines me.
  • As a man, I'm just flesh and blood- I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol? As a symbol, I can be incorruptible. I can be everlasting.
  • SWEAR TO ME!

Fun facts/trivia: Christian Bale starved himself for over 4 months prior to filming, as his character needed to look drastically thin. Allegedly his eating consisted of one cup of coffee and an apple (or a can of tuna) each day (approximately 275 calories). According to the DVD commentary, he lost 62 pounds (28kg), reducing his body weight to 120 pounds (54.4kg). Bale wanted to go down to 100 pounds (45.3kg) but the filmmakers would not let him due to health concerns. He later regained the weight, plus an additional 40 pounds (18kg) due to weightlifting, in preparation for his role in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.
