Derek Jacobi is a marvel and a genius. Most people have seen him on screen, but I saw him onstage performing "Cyrano", "Benedick" in Much Ado About Nothing, and "Prospero" in The Tempest with the Royal Shakespeare Company back in 1984 (!!!), and was completely blown away. Then I got to meet him, and was so overwhelmed I got tongue-tied and told him I wanted to act, too. Duh. He said, "God bless" and walked off into the London fog. It was a highlight in my life!!

for a priceless treat, check out Jacobi's comedic appearance on Fraiser, as a Shakespearing actor who is outright TERRIBLE at his craft, but doesnt seem to realize it

Mr Jacobi, your wonderful work in the Cadfael series was fantastic. You brought the character to life and I couldn't see any other actor in the rule. Your great work made me interested in films and television from outside the United States, thank you.
