Dory is a Regal Blue Tang that Marlin collides with while pursuing the boat that is carrying his son Nemo. She suffers from short-term memory loss and accompanies Marlin in his search for his son. Dory's optimism and her free spirit help Marlin throughout his journey and she has a sunny point of view over everything in life. She eventually becomes Marlin's best friend, and throughout their journey to find Nemo she begins to remember things better with Marlin around.

Dory's name comes from the common name of several families of marine fish, most of which are in the order Zeiformes, suborder Zeioidei.
