Emily was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Middle child of three children, has a sister who is a year younger than her.

As a child actress, Perkins was in three made for television movies: Small Sacrifices, opposite Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal, Anything to Survive , and Stephen King's It, with Jonathan Brandis and Seth Green.

In 1998, Perkins took a supporting role in the Canadian TV series Da Vinci's Inquest as Carmen (series 1, episode 9). She returned to the series in 2001 to take a recurring, supporting role as Sue Lewis for a further 34 episodes.

Perkins is best known for her role as Brigitte in the Ginger Snaps Trilogy of films: Ginger Snaps , Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, and Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning. Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed is Perkin's largest role in a film. In 2004 the horror magazine Fangoria awarded Perkins their "Chainsaw Award" for her work in GS2: Unleashed.

Perkins had supporting roles in She's the Man and Another Cinderella Story and a small role as a receptionist in Juno.

Both Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle have guest starred on "Supernatural"; but in different episodes.

In addition to the Ginger Snaps movie series, Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle have played sisters in Another Cinderella Story.

Raising (and currently in the process of adopting) her two cousins, age 10 and 13, because their birth parents are unable to care for them.
