| Fun facts/trivia:
In the Scene where Frankie(Patricia Arquette) attacks Father Andrew Kiernan in her appartment and the Male voice in English coming out from Frankie was Gabriel Byrnes. "Gabriel Byrne hearing himself attacking his faith"
Patricia Arquette`s character is named Frankie (short for Frances), similar to the name of the saint, Francis, whom we`re told by Gabriel Byrne`s Gabriel`s character was the first to receive the stigmata.
When Father Kiernan(Gabriel Byrne) comes in the Vatican office to get his new assigment, we can hear a bit of Italian speaking in the back between Cardinal Daniel Houseman(Jonathan Pryce) and another Priest. Translation: "Rest assured, none of this will never leave this room"
The Gospel of Thomas is a real historical document that some believe to be the actual words of Jesus to his disciplines; however, the real-life document was written in Coptic, an ancient Egyptian language based on the Greek alphabet, not aramaic, as the movie states

- Frankie: How is your faith these days, Father?
[shouting]
- Frankie: How is your faith these days?
Frankie: Hey, you know what's scarier than not believing in God? Believing in him. I mean, really believing in him. It's a fucking terrifying thought.
- Cardinal Daniel Houseman: [while trying to strangle Frankie] I'll not let you destroy my church!
[Frankie is possessed by Father Alameida] Frankie: Jesus said... the Kingdom of God is inside you, and all around you, not in mansions of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood... and I am there, lift a stone... and you will find me.
- Father Andrew Kiernan: Brother Alameida, I call upon you to release this woman. Give her grace and let her not come into the ways of harm. For through Jesus Christ we have all been saved and let us not fear any ill. For Jesus is with us, and the Unity of the Holy Spirit will remain forever, and ever. God bless your soul, Brother Alameida. And go in peace.
- Dr. Reston: Problems with a significant other?
- Frankie: Yeah.
- Dr. Reston: What kind of problems?
- Frankie: I'm not very significant.
- [Frankie is possessed by Father Alameida]
- Father Andrew Kiernan: Frankie? Frankie... who are you?
- Frankie: The messenger is not important.
- Dr. Reston: Do you have any stress at work?
- Frankie: I cut hair.
- Dr. Reston: And are there any problems with a significant other?
- Frankie: Yes...
- Dr. Reston: Which is?

The screenplay is based on the short story "So much water so close to home" by American writer Raymond Carver. The song "Everything's Turning to White" by Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly was also inspired by Carver's story.
The 'P' plate that is taken by the murderer from the young girl's concealed vehicle, is one of Australia's provisional licence placards. A person who has just got their licence is on P plates for 3 years and have certain restrictions. Revealing mistake: Just before the fishing, Stewart dyes his grying hair black. At the river, the gray repappears, but his hair inexplicably turns jet-black again upon his return

Aramis' statement, "I am a genius, not an engineer," is a pun in the original French ("Je suis un génie, pas un ingénieur").
Alexandre Dumas père, the author of the book for which this is based, adapted his novel on a historical account of a mysterious prisoner in the Bastille who was forced to wear a leather mask for the two years between his imprisonment and subsequent death.
Revealing Mistake: When D'artangnan is dealing with the angry peasants about the spoiled food, and the apples are thrown, the second apple that D'artangnan "stabs in the air" is visible on his sword before the slow-motion shot.

The idea for this movie started only with the concept of a movie poster of five of guys in a lineup.
Throughout the movie, 'fuck' and its derivatives are used 98 times.
In an interview (on the Special Edition DVD), 'Kevin Pollack' states that part of the reason for the hilarity during the line-up scene came from the fact that Benicio Del Toro, the now Academy Award winning actor, farted, like 12 takes in a row." Del Toro himself said "somebody" farted, but no one knew who.
SPOILER: Five actors played the part of Keyser Soze: Gabriel Byrne's and 'Kevin Spacey (I)''s faces are shown as Keyser Soze; in the flashback sequence, Keyser Soze is played by a man with long hair that obscures his face; composer and editor John Ottman played the part of Keyser Soze's hand lighting a cigarette; and Bryan Singer played the close up of Keyser's feet.
