For Mulan (1998), he had another person do his singing voice because his own voice was too good. In his audition for the film Sixteen Candles (1984), he went through the entire process pretending he did not speak any English, imitating a Korean friend. After he was finished, he eloquently thanked the casting director in perfect English. He was soon cast.

    Where is the LOVE? You gotta have mad love for Gedde. C'mon, I know you remember him. He was unforgettable as Long Duk Dong in "Sixteen Candles." He was also half of the reason that Ron Howards' "Gung Ho" was so hilarious. He was also a funny waiter in "Booty Call." I guess I will have to find some pictures. Much respect to Gedde Watanabe.
