In the Marvel Comics, Pepper Pots started out as an employee of Stark Industries, she had discovered an accounting mistake and immediately rushed to Tony to let him know of the error. Her actions had saved the company a large amount of money and then Tony Stark decided to promote her to be his personal Assistant. Working so closely with him dat to day, she had learned that he was Iron Mand and had ever since then become one of his closest and most loyal of confidants.
Pepper Pots fancies Tony and admires his level of commitment to his work. Pepper and Tonys budding love relationship is seen in the movie.

Her movie character was taken from the fictional Marvel Comics character (of the same name - Virginia "Pepper" Pots) in the Iron Man series.
She is also seen on the Marvel comic volumes of Age of Innocence - The rebirth of Iron Man, Iron Man, The Invincible Iron Man, Marvel Saga, and Tales of Suspense.
