lessons, and later she was in a school play "The Wizard Of Oz" as Dorothy. After that, she

studying classical arts, she started singing at bars and clubs in Long Island. While
she was earning pocket money, she joined a wedding band and was the lead singer. But
at age 15, you couldn't...and that's why she lied about her age. After that, she was
enrolled in NYU's School of the Arts. She signed up for Drama, because trying
to get a record deal was harder than she thought. Later she saw a audition for Rent,
and was casted as Maureen Johnson. She met her husband to be Taye Diggs there too,
and got married in January 2003. She also planned her own record, "Still I Want To Be
Still". She starred in The Wild Party, Aida, and later, she was cast as the memorable
role of Elphaba in Wicked.

Her last name was originally spelled "Mentzel" but she decided to take the T out because everyone pronounced it incorrectly.

    No offence to Idina Menzel, i think she's an amazing actress but i don't want her to play Elphaba in the Wicked movie. It was werid enough when 40year old actresses would play essentailly school kids on stage, which they could get away with. But on screen? Im not so sure, it would look weird. Idina should play Elphaba's mum and Kristin should play Madam Morrible. Ha!
    I don't know, i think that seeming as though when we first meet Elphaba and Glinda they are in Uni, we should have actresses nearer that age group.
    Don't get me wrong, i though Idina as Elphaba was amazing and i kicked myself when i realised i missed the chnace to see her in London, twice! But i still stand by not wanting her play Elphaba in the movie. Although at first, i totally wanted her as Elphaba, then i thought about it and it would just be too weird. Mehh. :/

    I agree with jessy103 it NEEDS 2 B a Movie but Idina HAS TO play Elphaba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I seen Wicked a few weeks ago Elphaba was great but I like Idina Better No offence 2 whoever played Elphaba I don't know her name
