| | Character back story: | Inspiration for character: Ace Ventura is a fictional character created by screenwriter Jack Bernstein. Bernstein had wanted to create a comedic version of Sherlock Holmes, and while watching the 'Stupid Pet Tricks' segment on 'Late Night With David Letterman, he got the idea for a pet detective
But it was Jim Carrey who brought this character to life in a way that no one else could. After several reads through the script, the lines just weren't feeling right, so, Jim decided to add Ace's voice style and the manner in which he speaks. The voice is something which Jim used in his old stand up routine, it was such an improvement that it became Ace Ventura's main character trait. The well known catchphrase "All righty then" was taken from one of his old stand up characters. Many of Ace's mannerisms (like his laugh) are taken from the character 'Fire Marshall Bill' who Jim played during his time on the TV show 'In Living Color'.
| Age: Going by Jim's age, Ace is 32 in the first movie, and, 33 in the second
| | Occupation: Pet Detective | Personality type: Eccentric, flamboyant, extrovert, narcissistic, persistently vulgar, possibly insane. Despite this, Ace is intelligent and dedicated to his craft, he is also an incredible observationist
| Signature look: Unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt over a plain white vest, red and black striped trousers, boots, shades (occasionally), big hair quiff
| Resides: In the first movie - Miami, Florida In the second movie - Ace does not have a preminent residence, we see him in the Himalayas attempting to rescue a raccoon, soul-searching with the monks in Tibet, and gets to work on a mission in Africa | | Character connections: | | Fun facts/trivia: | |
