(Click here for help.) | On December 21, 1966, Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland and his twin sister, Rachel, were born in the UK to Canadian acting parents, screen legend Donald Sutherland and the esteemed stage actress, Shirley Douglas. He is also the grandson of one of Canada's most illustrious and influential politicians, Tommy Douglas - the former Premier of Saskatchewan and the founder of the Canadian system of socialized medicine. When he was just four years old his parents divorced and he moved with his mother from Los Angeles, California to Toronto. At fifteen, he caught the acting bug (which is to be expected), and spent time at theaters with his mother and movie sets with his father.
In 1984, when Kiefer was just 18 years old he won a Genie Award for his first major role as the lead in The Bad Boy. He went on, after moving back to L.A., to star in many movie hits of the '80s. Stand By Me, Lost Boys, and Young Guns just to name a few.
"I think all of us thought we were going to be around forever, I've never been a great career planner. As I said, there are a lot of movies I'd like to throw away. That's not to say that I went in with that attitude. Any film I ever started, I went in with all the hope and best intentions in the world, but some films don't just work. If I had thought a little more about what I was getting into, I would have known that. I love to work. I love what I do. But you can do too much."
Currently, he is an Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning actor. He is currently well known for his lead role as CTU agent Jack Bauer on the Fox television series 24.
"There are two things Jack Bauer never does: Show mercy, and go to the bathroom."
Sutherland is also the owner of Ironworks Studio, a great music production company that houses artists on the rise and a couple that've been around for a while. These bands include the talents of Billy Boy on Poison, Rocco Deluca and the Burden, Honeyhoney, and Lifehouse. |
