In 1996 she was given the National Film Award by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. In 1999, she was honored for her philanthropic work saving the Crayola Crayon factory in Lehigh, Pennsylvania from destruction with a vocal serenade from local Florida handyman, Tay Dog, in collaboration with the extraordinary New York artist, J Bubs. Mark Grissom, long time friend and mentor, played guitar. She was the president of the Spanish Movie Academy.
