Matthew McConaughey Biography Early Life: Matthew is the youngest of three boys. He is the son of Mary Kathleen "Kay" McCabe and James Donald McConaughey. Matthew McConaughey was born November 4, 1969 in Uvalde, Texas but later moved to Longview, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from Longview High School in 1988. After graduating, Matthew spent time as an exchange student in Australia before returning home to Texas to attend the University of Texas, where he studied to become a lawyer. Matthew discovered "The Greatest Salesman in the World", an inspirational Og Mandino book, before one of his final exams, after reading this he was so inspired he re-evaluated his profession from lawyer to actor. Career: Matthew's acting career began with the film My Boyfriend's Back, it was a small part for Matthew, he was known as Guy #2. After the film, My Boyfriend's Back, Matthew met with Don Phillips. This led to him being cast in the film Dazed and Confused as David Wooderson. Matthew portrayed an athlete in Angels in the Outfield, a police officer in Lone Star, Judgment, and Boys on the Side and a psycho in Return of the Chainsaw Massacre. Finally in 1996, Matthew was cast in the film A Time to Kill, where he played a lawyer, Jake Brigance. His role as Jake put him in the center of the media. The blockbuster, A Time to Kill, opened many doors for Matthew. He began working with some of the biggest name in Hollywood, such as Steven Speilberg in Amistad along with Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins, and he also worked with Robert Zemeckis in Contact along with Jodie Foster. In the 2000's Matthew was cast in leading roles in many romantic comedies. He starred alongside Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner in 2001. In 2005, he starred in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days with Kate Hudson and in 2006 he appeared alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in Failure to Launch. In 2002, he played Denton Van Zan, as American tough guy, warrior, and dragon hunter in the futuristic/sci-fi film Reign of Fire alongside Christian Bale. 2006 Matthew portrayed Jack Lengyel in We Are Marshall, which is based on a true story about a plane crash that took some of the lives of the Marshall University football players along with some of the teams fans. In 2008, Matthew starred alongside Kate Hudson again in Fool's Gold. The same year he appeared in Tropic Thunder, replacing Owen Wilson for the role of Rick Peck. Personal Life: Matthew loves traveling. He has took frequent cross country trips to many places such as Africa, Brazil, and Australia. His personal motto is Just Keep Livin. Which inspired him to create the j.k. livin foundatoin. The j.k. livin foundation is dedicated to helping children transform into adults through programs that teach the importance of health, education, and active living. The foundation carries clothing for men, women, and infants. Ten percent of the proceeds from purchase made goes directly to the foundation.
