Born in Williamstown, Massachusetttes, Matthew Perry was raised in Ottawa, Ontario, where he became a top ranked junior tennis player in Canda. However after moving to Los Angeles at the age of 15 to live with his father actor John Bennet Perry, he became more interested in acting. In addition to preforming in several high school stage productions, he remained an avid tennis player. Perry ranked 17th nationally in the junior singles catagory. Upon graduating from high school, Perry intended to enroll in the university of Southern California. However when he was offered the leading role on a television series, Second Chance (1987) he seized the opportunity to begin his acting career.
Perry went on to have a few unsuccessful films roles, such as A Night In the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988) alongside River Phoenix and She's Out Of Control (1989). He also appeared on serval sit-coms, however Perry thought that he could write better sit-coms than the ones he was acting in.
In 1994 he landed his role as Chandler Bing on Friends (1994 - 2004) Friends which was created and written by Martha Kauffman and David Craine instantly became a success and is America's most popular sit-com ever! Perry played Chandler, a quick witted, charming yet hopless with the ladies Chandler for 10 years and it is probably his most memorable role.
After Friends finished in 2004, Perry went on to star in several films such as The Whole Nine Yards (2000) and opposite Elizabeth Hurley in Serving Sara (2002).
