Biography: Recently relocated to LA from her native city of New York, Monnae Michaell can currently be seen on "The Shield" (2002) as Vanessa. Other television credits include "NYPD Blue" (1993), "The Practice" ...( read more )(1997), "Crossing Jordan" (2001), "ER" (1994) and many others. She also has recurring roles on many other series including "Matt Waters" (1996) and _Someone Had to Be Benny (1996) (TV)_. Film credits include Bug (2002), Dragonfly (2002) and many independent films. Theatre credits include Mark Taper Forum - August Wilson's King Hedley ll, for which she was nominated for a NAACP Theatre award for Best Leading Actress, Henry IV Part l (where she also served as an Associate Artist), Studio Arena 'Sweet and Hot in Harlem' and many others. Monnae attended the Lee Strasberg Institute through New York University and began her career in musical theatre as an actress/ singer /dancer. She has performed in many musical venues and her one-woman show (presented in various NY clubs) won a Bistro Award for Best Newcomer. She has taught creative improvisational workshops for children ages 6-17, and her work is currently represented in commercials, voice-overs, industrials, CD-ROMs and animated film. She is the voice of Balto's mother in the soon to be released children's film _Balto II: Wolf Quest (2001) (V)_, and the voice of the air flight attendant in the soon to be released animated film, The Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002).
