Replace this image with an actor photoPeter Lorre mini-bio: Peter Lorre was born into a Jewish family in what is now Slovakia and started attending acting school in Vienna. In the 1920s he worked with famous German playwright Bertolt Brecht in Berlin. He became famous in the German-speaking role of a child killer in the 1931 film "M". Taking refuge from the Nazis in Germany he moved to western Europe where he met Alfred Hitchcock and played the villian in "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and learned basic English phonetically. Eventually he found his way to Hollywood and specialized in playing wicked or strange foreigners. Peter Lorre is famous for his voice and somewhat creepy look and mannerisms. Impressions of him are often found in Looney Tunes cartoons and humorous songs.

I know! Flixster's list for Peter Lorre is awful. I tried sending bio info and films to add to the list but they didn't update with it.

Peter Lorre was a genius. His roles in M and Casablanca would make a brilliant career even if he had done nothing else, but Lorre appeared in over 80 films in his time (not 11 like Flixster claims) and was great in various other films such as The Maltese Falcon, Arsenic and Old Lace, and 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. As a German expat in 30's and 40's Hollywood, like Fritz Lang, Lorre also worked on some films which were objectively beneath his ability -- but Lorre, again like Lang, brought both style and professionalism to even those films.

Is there anyone better able to play a creepy guy than Peter Lorre? I think not. That voice is spectacular.
