The reason RM was so good in "Live & let Die" was because the script was written for Sean Connery, so RM was forced to play the part a little bit more rugged than his later light comedy version of 007. The same is true of the most underrated Bond in "On Her majesty's Secret Service" which was also written with Connery in mind. Lazenby was an excellent Bond, but his credibility suffered because he had done a commercial in England (he is Australian) for Heinz Baked Beans, which typecast him in a negative way...

Roger Moore has always been a competent, likable actor. He can be quite charming and quite funny and works well in light comedy and action-adventure. I personally think he is the best version of the Leslie Charteris mystery character "The Saint" ("Simon Templar") that there's ever been...making the Val Kilmer theatrical version seem utterly lame by comparison. Good also in "Ffolks", "The Sea Wolves", and his post-saint t.v. series with Tony Curtis, "The Persuaders".

He was not my own favorite version of James Bond, though he did make two good Bond movies during his tenure. "Live & Let Die" was a decent 007 flick, quite enjoyable, but Moore's pinnacle moment in the Bonds was "For Your Eyes Only", not only the best Roger Moore Bond flick, but among the best Bond flicks, period. It holds its own up there with most of the Connery vehicles (a rough row to hoe), as well as with
On Her Majesty's Secret Service", another tough nut to compete with.

Be cool, Rog. You did okay.

I love Roger Moore in this 70's British televison series called The Avengers. He is so suited for the that part! Great comedy between him and Tony Curtis, his co-star.

Probably not the greatest James Bond of them all, but I've always liked the Mooreski.
