Russ Tamblyn mini-bio: Born in Los Angeles, California, his first movie appearance was
in *The Boy With Green Hair* (1948). He protrayed the young Saul in Cecil
B. DeMille's version of *Samson and Delilah* (1949). His breakout role was
as Gideon in *Seven Brides for Seven Brothers *(1954) in which he displayed
his abilities as a champion gymnast and acrobat. His other musical roles
include the title role in *Tom Thumb* (1958), one of the sailors in *Hit the
Deck *(1955) and as what is probably his best-known work as Riff, the leader
of the Jets in the Oscar Best Picture winning *West Side Story *(1961).
He's appeared in the movie *Peyton Place *(1957) for which he was nominated
for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Other noted roles are in *How
the West Was Won* (1962), *The Long Ships* (1963) and the Japanese kaiju
film *War of the Gargantuas* (1966). Most recently he has appeared in TV
series like *Nash Bridges* and *Twin Peaks*. His daughter, Amber Tamblyn,
is also an actress.

I saw him in West Side Story. He can't always sing very well tho. When he holds out JET it loses key.

First saw Russ Tamblyn in Tom Thumb....I loved tha movie. HIs dancing was always so fun to watch. Then Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and it was pointed out that he was Gideon....and again the dancing...as well as the sweet character he portrayed as Gideon. But as Riff in West Side Story..possibly my favourite movie to watch him in! Just short lived thats all!
