Just saw a 1968 "Star Trek" episode, 'The Paradise Syndrome,' in which Sabrina Scharf stole the screen and therefore the show from the predictable and, by that third season, wooden performances of the original cast. Nimoy and Shatner did avoid the usual fistfights, mostly, opting for more drawn-out intrigue behind how Native Americans at that late date continued to live on planet "Amerind" (a failure of imagination there) in 19th Century style attire with ancient belief systems. Sabrina Scharf was the purpose of the episode, it seemed; her American Indian marriage to Capt. Kirk was the romantic tension and, at the end, the tang of tragedy.
More importantly, Scharf went on to appear in the classic "Easy Rider," many TV episodes and films. At this link read more, with links, on her career, including a stint as Calif. state senator and, as of 2007, giving it all up for real estate. http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Sabrina_Scharf
