Date of Birth: 15 December 1972, Howth, County Dublin, Ireland

Stuart Townsend mini-bio:
With the kind of dark, coolly seductive looks that lend themselves to playing either ladies' men or raving psychos, Stuart Townsend is one of the more compelling actors to have emerged from Ireland during the 1990s. Stuart Townsend was born in Howth, County Dublin in 1972. Although his father, Peter Townsend was a professional golfer, Stuart found his true desires. In the early nineties, a girlfriend of his invited him to go with her to a drama workshop at Dublin's Gaiety School of Acting. Like his fellow Irish actor Colin Farrell, who also attended the same school, Stuart fell in love with acting and took up studies there until 1994, where he made his non-professional stage debut in the school's production of Tear Up The Black Sail. Townsend's early movie roles were in Irish short films such as "Godsuit" and "Summertime". He supported himself by boxing until his first feature film debut in Trojan Eddie (1996) UK/Irish co-production. In 1997 he landed a lead role as a sweet-natured con man in a successful comedy British film Shooting Fish. Although his part was small, Townsend attracted a London agent and began appearing in numerous stage and film productions in England and Ireland. America began to take notice of Stuart's talents when he appeared in two films featured in the 2000 Sundance Film Festival, in one of which he took lead role as the outrageous seducer in the title role of About Adam. He started to be noticed in the United States by critics and the public alike. In mid-2000, he briefly returned to the London stage in the Tennessee Williams play Orpheus Descending, starring as Val Xavier, alongside Helen Mirren as Lady Torrance. The turnover to the new millennium found Townsend with some big shoes to fill as he stepped into the role of Anne Rice's staple bloodsucker Lestat de Lioncourt (originally portrayed by Tom Cruise in Neil Jordan's Interview With the Vampire (1994)) in 2002. Baring his fangs alongside co-star and title character Aaliyah (who perished in an airplane crash shortly before the film opened in theaters), Townsend recieved a fair amount of praise for his role in the film, which was previously rumored to have been heading for a straight to video release. After vampire fangs, came the role of Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. In 2005 Townsend starred alongside Gabrielle Union in Night Stalker, the remake of the 1974 ABC TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. He played the part of Carl Kolchak, an investigative reporter looking into his wife's murder. Night Stalker was abruptly cancelled by ABC after six episodes due to bad viewing figures. Again, he was cited as "too young" by many reviewers and fans of the original series comparing him to Darren McGavin in the original series. He also played a guest starring role on NBC's Will & Grace as the pansexual pastry chef of Karen Walker who seduces her, Will Truman, and later Karen's maid Rosario. He also made an uncredited cameo in 2005's live-action Aeon Flux film. Townsend recently starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in the comedy Chaos Theory. Stuart have incredible passion and vision so he went ahead and wrote, produced and directed his first feature in 2007, Battle in Seattle. The story centers around Seattle which is a realistic portrayal of the WTO Ministerial Conference of 1999 World Trade Organisation which was successfully undermined by anti-globalization protesters. It was an ambitious undertaking but I saw it and was suitably impressed. It’s very possible that Townsend can reinvent himself as a director. Despite the films A-list cast, including Townsend's partner of many years: Charlize Theron, Ray Liotta, Woody Harrelson and others, not to mention its being well received by critics, the film enjoyed only limited release and no Blockbuster support.

Personal Quotes:
* A lot of people ask me if it's intimidating because Tom Cruise was the star of the original and that kind of thing, but for me, it was just such a different story, it was rock and roll (About Queen of the Damned (2002)). * You have no idea how much fun it is playing Ermentrude the Cow. * As Oscar Wilde said, golf is a waste of a good walk (On his father's profession). * Acting is great.
