Fun facts/trivia:
* Tom Cruise was initially asked to return in the role of Lestat, but he declined.

* Warner Bros. was already into its last year of owning motion picture rights to the first three Vampire Chronicles books which would then have transferred back to author 'Anne Rice', who could then sell the rights to another company of her choosing. Knowing what little time they had left, despite the fact they've had the rights and opportunity to make the latter two movies for over seven years, Warner Bros. hastily hired writers to condense the books "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" into one movie with the latter being the movie title.

* Stuart Townsend shares his name with a character from another Anne Rice novel, "The Witching Hour". Upon meeting Townsend, Rice handed him a copy of the book and instructed him to turn to a certain page number, whereupon was written "The Life of Stuart Townsend". Townsend was flattered that she had written him into her new book, until she told him that she had written it eleven years prior.

* Author of the novel Anne Rice considers this to be a terrible disappointment for her and for many of the readers.
Character Quotes & Catchphrases
  • Lestat: With all my black little heart.
  • [first lines]
Lestat: [voiceover] There comes a time for every vampire when the idea of eternity becomes momentarily unbearable. Living in the shadows, feeding in the darkness with only your own company to keep, rots into a solitary, hollow existence. Immortality seems like a good idea, until you realize you're going to spend it alone. So I went to sleep, hoping that the sounds of the passing eras would fade out, and a sort of death might happen. But as I lay there, the world didn't sound like the place I had left, but something different.
    [rock music begins]
Lestat: Better. It became worthwhile to rise again as new gods were born and worshipped. Night and day, they were never alone. I would become one of them.
    [feeds]
Lestat: Whether it was that first meal, or a hundred years of rest, I'm not sure. But suddenly I was feeling better than ever. My senses so high they led me straight to the instrument of my resurrection, playing in my old house.
  • Lestat: From that moment on, they were my friends, my children, my band. Giving the world a new god... me.
  • Lestat: Many times I've called for Marius, but there was no answer. Just the endless procession of days, months, years... My teacher left me to my darkest lesson, that in the end, we are alone, and there is nothing but the cold, dark wasteland of eternity.
  • Marius: [sarcastic] Impressive. Reminds me of old mad Druids running around chanting in the forest. A return to the primitive.
Lestat: Out there. My fans. Thousands and thousands. They worship me. Millions of arms reach out to embrace, beg me to come into their lives.
Marius: It's what you've always wanted.
Lestat: With all my black little heart.
Marius: Do you think of anyone but yourself?
Lestat: I only have myself. You taught me that.
Marius: It may be time to get ready for some company.
Lestat: What's that supposed to mean?
Marius: [referring to Akasha] Your music's woken a very old friend...
Lestat: [looks at Marius, trying to understand]
Marius: Can't you hear it? Or is the applause all you can hear now?

Character back story: Dorian Gray, the subject of a painting by artist Basil Hallward. Basil is impressed by Dorian's beauty and becomes infatuated with him, believing his beauty is responsible for a new mode in his art. Realising that one day his beauty will fade, Dorian cries out, expressing his desire to sell his soul to ensure the portrait Basil has painted would age rather than himself. Dorian's wish is fulfilled, plunging him into debauched acts. The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging.
Renowned adventurer Allan Quatermain leads a team of extraordinary figures with legendary powers to battle the technological terror of a madman known as "The Fantom." This "League" comprises seafarer/inventor Captain Nemo, vampiress Mina Harker, an invisible man named Rodney Skinner, American secret service agent Tom Sawyer, the dangerous split personality of Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and the ageless and invincible Dorian Gray.

Fun facts/trivia:

* The character of Tom Sawyer was added because the studio thought many people in the American market wouldn't care about the movie unless an American character and cast member was in it.

* At one point, Peta Wilson does a humorous impersonation of Sean Connery's voice. According to Wilson, this was a last-minute addition to the scene, and she felt nervous doing it, since Connery impersonations was considered a no-no on the set. Before the shoot she called Connery and offered not to do the accent, but he insisted she should. Afterwards she asked him what he thought. He replied, "You were great!" She was taken aback and asked if he really meant it. He said, "Yeah, it's terrible! It's the worst impersonation I have ever heard, and it's perfect."

* Stuart Townsend stated in an interview that he was the only one of the seven League members whose contract did not bind him to a three-picture deal. He said they were going to ask it of him, but he observed that it would be pointless since his character is killed in the movie, and they agreed to contract him for only one picture.
