Captured and incarcerated Zod and his followers were banished to the Phantom Zone by scientist Jor-El, only to be accidentally released years later by his son Kal-El, or known to the people of Earth as Superman. Now possessing powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men, General Zod set out to conquer the backwater planet he found himself on, and dedicated himself to the destruction of the son of his jailer: Superman!
