He first achieved fame as Luke Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard. He also played Jeff, one of Cybill Shepherd's ex-husbands in the TV show Cybill.
In 2005, Wopat appeared in the Broadway revival of Davi...( read more)d Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Glengarry Glen Ross as the browbeaten customer, James Lingk (played in the film by Jonathan Pryce).
He is now embarking on a music career. Musically he switches between rock and roll and country music styles though his last two albums have been on the standard variety. The latter one, Dissertation on the State of Bliss, comprising of a collection of Harold Arlen tunes.
Wopat recently starred in a 2006 production of The Music Man, in the role of Harold Hill.
Wopat was nominated for a Tony Award in 1999 for his role in the revival of Annie Get Your Gun, opposite Bernadette Peters, Susan Lucci and Reba McEntire, who played Annie (in consecutive order).
Wopat is currently facing driving while intoxicated and reckless driving charges in Ringwood, New Jersey, after hitting traffic cones and nearly colliding with a Ringwood Police car March 22, 2006.
