Replace this image with an actor photoToshiro Mifune mini-bio: Born in China to Japanese parents. With no prior acting experience, he launched his movie career in 1946 and, two years later, worked for the first time with director Akira Kurosawa in Drunken Angel. Mifune's raw, unbridled masculinity was ideal for such Kurosawa films as Rashomon (1950) and The Seven Samurai (1954). But as he matured artistically, the actor proved he was no one-trick pony, as demonstrated by his low-key, carefully crafted performance as a tormented business executive in High and Low (1963). Mifune was held in high esteem by the film industry as he was by the public, winning Venice Film Festival awards for his performances in Kurosawa's Yojimbo (1960) and Red Beard (1965). Mifune's ability to shift from macho to subtle sensitivity was very similar to the work of Clint Eastwood, who, ironically, played the Mifune-character role in A Fistful of Dollars, the 1964 remake of Yojimbo.

Mifune is a lesson in movie-actor art.Brilliant is just a word, the true word is Toshiro Mifune!
and by the way: "This is a fan-driven page and Toshiro Mifune probably doesn't read it. Though you never know..." I don't think is true, Kurosawa, Mifune and Shimura reading us, the viewers, even in present.

Toshiro Mifune is one of the greatest Japanese actors of all-time. His work in Yojimbo, Seven Samurai and Sanjuro was incredibly brilliant. His unbridled demeanor and disciplined acting method brought out performances that were both uncanny and simply genius.

At first, I did not like his mimics when he acted someone half crazy, I thought it was somehow artificial. (Shichinin no samurai, Rashomon)

But his success comes partly of those mimics and over time, by watching the similar characters in other movies he started to look far more natural and lively, even a stereotype.
