Mini-bio: Vivien Leigh (November 5, 1913 – July 8, 1967) was an English actress. Although her film appearances were relatively few, she won two Academy Awards playing "southern belles": Scarlett O'Hara in Gone ...( read more)with the Wind (1939) and Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), a role she had also played in London's West End. She was a prolific stage performer, frequently in collaboration with her husband, Laurence Olivier, who directed her in several of her roles. During her thirty-year stage career, she played parts that ranged from the heroines of Noël Coward and George Bernard Shaw comedies to classic Shakespearean characters such as Ophelia, Cleopatra, Juliet and Lady Macbeth.

Lauded for her beauty, Leigh felt that it sometimes prevented her from being taken seriously as an actress, but ill health proved to be her greatest obstacle. Affected by bipolar disorder for most of her adult life, she gained a reputation for being a difficult person to work with, and her career went through periods of decline. She was further weakened by recurrent bouts of tuberculosis, with which she was first diagnosed in the mid-1940s. She and Olivier divorced in 1960, and Leigh worked sporadically in film and theatre until her death from tuberculosis.

No offense to the person who is supposedly doing the bio, her name is spelt VIVIEN not VIVIAN. Vivian is her birthname but not as we shall remember her.

For those of you who didn’t already know, Sir Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh began their love affair at Ivan Novello’s house in Maidenhead, Berkshire. This property is now home to Redroofs Theatre School where Oscar winner Kate Winslet, another English rose, was trained. Kate began her acting career at the Kenton Theatre in Henley on Thames, a stunning riverside town only 40 minutes from London Heathrow. This summer, the Kenton is hosting the premier of Make Believe the Musical, written by James Hall, a West End composer and writer. Vivien was an amazing actress. She could draw you in and never lose your interest:)
She loved the Theater first and foremost but she won 2 best actress oscars even though she didn't star in too many films.
She was Scarlett O'Hara(as she also craved attention) and she was also Blanche DuBois(she had a nervous breakdown ,complications from TB)
She loved her fans also as she was always ready to sign an autograph:)
She would even carry her own pen where ever she went.
She always made sure she signed her name perfectly:)
