Zachary Quinto, best known for his role on the television series Heroes and for his portrayal of Spock in the JJ Abram's film, Star Trek, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When he was seven-years-old, Quinto lost his father to cancer. Both he and his brother, photographer Joe Quinto, were raised by their mother, Margo, in Green Tree, Pennsylvania.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Quinto began acting as a member of the Pittsburgh CLO-Mini Stars at the age of eleven. He then went on to Central Catholic High School, where he was honored with Pittsburgh CLO's Gene Kelly Award. Following his graduation from Central Catholic in 1995, Quinto attended Carnegie Mellon University's Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, from which he graduated in 1999.
The following year, Quinto made his television debut on the short-lived NBC series, The Others. This was followed by guest appearances on such shows as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Touched by an Angel, Crossing Jordan, Charmed and Six Feet Under. Quinto made his film debut with a small uncredited role in the direct-to-video independent thriller, Psychic Murders. He then appeared as an angry beatnik in the 2003 romantic comedy, Down with Love. In 2003, Quinto also appeared in all but one episode of the third season of FOX's hit drama, 24, where he portrayed Adam Kaufman, a Counter Terrorist Unit Analyst. However, following the third season, his character was written off of the show without explanation. He then went on to co-star in VH1's series, So NoTORIous, where he played Tori Spelling's flamboyantly gay Persian-American friend, Sasan. The series ended after just ten episodes. 
In 2006, Quinto joined the cast of NBC's sci-fi series, Heroes, as the show's villain, Gabriel "Sylar" Gray, in the eighth episode, Seven Minutes to Midnight. The character of Sylar is one of the of the most popular of the series and is for which Quinto is most associated with.
In the summer of 2008, Quinto confirmed that he had been chosed to portray the character of Spock, in the JJ Abrams' directed film, Star Trek. The cast also includes Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho and also a cameo by the original Spock. Leonard Nemoy. The film was released on May 8th, 2009, with select prescreenings on May 7th. The film earned high critcal praise and as of August, is the fifth-highest grossing film of 2009, making it the highest-grossing film in the Star Trek series.
