Though his subsequent turn as a ganja-growing hippie in Oliver Stone's Savages came just two years later, Johnson seemed to have matured a decade in just a few dozen months as he took on one of Mexico's most dangerous drug cartels in a daring bid to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend.
