Broadway star Otis Skinner discovered him there and cast him in the revival of The Honor of the Family, a major success that led to starring roles in such Broadway productions as Sun-Up and appearances opposite leading ladies Eva LeGallienne and Lenore Ulric. Birmingham entered films while on a vacation to Hollywood in 1929 and played a dual role in Masquerade, a screen version of the old Broadway whodunit The Brass Bowl. The critics were less than kind, however, and his subsequent film appearances were minor. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
