Perhaps it was the times or maybe the male-dominated film industry, but Turney did not… More Bio: During the '40s and early '50s, Catherine Turney specialized in writing female-oriented screenplays for some of Hollywood's brightest stars, including Joan Crawford, Ida Lupino, and Bette Davis. Turney's female characters were noted for their toughness, strength, and cunning. Perhaps it was the times or maybe the male-dominated film industry, but Turney did not always receive full credit for her work. For many years, the principal writing for Mildred Pierce (1945), which starred Crawford in one of her signature roles, was wrongly attributed to writer Ranald Mac Dougall when, in fact, it was largely written by Turney. While she spent most of her film career at Warner Bros., Turney also wrote for MGM, Paramount, and Universal. In addition to her film scripts, Turney wrote for television and radio.
