The son of Odette Durand, a well-known writer and poet, David had been something of a child prodigy at the age of two, when he became known as radio's "Little Boy Blue." Film offers started pouring in in 1926 and Durand's popularity only grew in the '30s, when he proved to be one of Hollywood's more endearing child actors. In 1940, he replaced Noah Beery, Jr. in Columbia's Glove Slingers boxing short subjects but left the series to replace a military-bound Bobby Jordan in the East Side Kids films.
