Eagle-eyed TV viewers will no doubt recognize Cotto from her appearances in such popular series' as Oz and Law & Order, and her feature career gained momentum in such films as Lean on Me (1989), Girl 6 (1996), Personals (1999), and Empire (2002). Born to Puerto Rican parents and raised in New York City, the Spanish-fluent Cotto studied drama at the High School of Performing Arts. Receiving additional training at the William Esper Studio, the burgeoning talent also studied dance before taking a small role in the 1989 drama Lean on Me.
