She proved herself more than a beautiful face and a Gallic accent with her dramatic performance in the otherwise all-male Battleground (1949). She was then promoted as a "discovery" when she co-starred with Olsen and Johnson in the 1950 Broadway revue Pardon My French. Nothing, however, brought Denise more attention than her "leg art" pose with Lex Barker from her 1950 film Tarzan and the Slave Girl. Dropping out of films after 1954's Vera Cruz, Denise Darcel went back to the nightclub circuit, returning before the cameras only for an occasional television commercial, her hosting chores including the live TV quiz show Gamble on Love (1954). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
