He made his first appearance around 1916. The theatrical producer/playwright/entertainer had some of his plays adapted to the screen, including The Miracle Man (1919) and Elmer the Great (1933). He later wrote a few original screenplays including Little Nellie Kelly (1940). Many of his Broadway tunes have become movie standards including "Yankee Doodle Dandy," and "Give My Regards to Broadway." Cohan was immortalized on film in 1942 with the classic biopic Yankee Doodle Dandy featuring James Cagney as Cohan, who was still alive when the film was made. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
