He was seen in such stage productions as The Andersonville Trial and In the Matter of J. Robert Oppenheimer; his rare film appearances include Five Fingers (1952) and Cleopatra (1963). Berghof is better known for his accomplishments as a director and acting teacher. His many directorial credits include the first New York staging of Beckett's Waiting for Godot, starring Bert Lahr and E.G. Marshall, in 1956.
