Returning to acting later in the decade, Fay surprisingly turned up as Spider a nasty Lower Eastside gangster in Mary Pickford's incredibly popular Little Annie Rooney (1925). The role, which Fay played with a permanent sneer, may have taken his career in a whole new direction had he lived. Sadly, Hugh Fay died of stomach cancer a little over a year later. His final film, Larry Semon's Spuds (1927), was released posthumously. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
