Apart from his deadpan delivery and solemn face, Dee employed no gimmicks, butsimply stood at the microphone and delivered a cleverly written stream of patter,most of it created from his apparent anger at certain aspects of society - thisvitriol being all the more effective for its sneering but calm delivery. After Deewon the Best Stage Newcomer at the 1991 Comedy Awards, TV beckoned and he was soongiven his own show by C4. His style worked well on the small-screen and he alsoimpressed with a series of drily witty commercials for John Smiths beer, co-writtenby the comedian and drawing fun from his professionally miserable demeanour.
