The studio changed her name to Jean Stevens for The Return of the Durango Kid (1944), where she played a goodhearted saloon belle with much more pizzazz and verve than the stereotypical assignment called for. Despite the Western's "B" status, Columbia should have taken notice; sadly, they didn't and Stevens played out her contract in what could only generously be termed supporting parts.
