On stage she was best known for playing Madame Dubonnet in the original production of The Boy Friend. Her film career has been more sporadic. She made her first film appearance in Rush Hour (1941). Sterndale-Bennett is the daughter of British performer Thomas Case Sterndale. Early in her stage career, she spent five years closely affiliated with Players Theatre. She retired from acting after a long run in the stage comedy No Sex, Please, We're British in the '70s.
