Meillon made his acting debut at age 11 on the radio and the year after first performed on-stage. He spent the early '60s in Britain where he appeared in such films as The Longest Day (1962), but returned to Australia mid-decade. He gained national fame when he starred in the popular television series My Name's McGooley, What's Yours?
