His award-winning shorts include "The Golden Rose", "Everything that I am", and "Virus Man"His numerous awards include the Directors Guild of America Student Film Award for directing, the Kodak Award, the Barbara Corday Award, the USC Faculty 546 directing Award, and a Cinema Circulus Award for academic excellence. Additionally, he was recognized three times with a grant from Columbia TriStar as a promising new talent, and for three consecutive years, the directing award given by the Mexican National Endowment for Culture and the Arts.His latest feature film "Sea of Dreams" is a Mexican-American production in English in which using magic realism throughout, director Jose Bojorquez created a mythical, sensual tale where one of the film's most interesting roles is played by the sea itself.The movie assembles an international cast that includes the Brazilian actress Sonia Braga, Seymour Cassel, Johnathon Schaech, Nicholas Gonzalez, Mexican sweetheart Angelica Maria and Israeli actress Sendi Bar. The original score was composed by Luis Bacalov, Academy Award winner for the Italian film "Il Postino"."Sea of Dreams" represents Pepe's feature-film debut as a director, writer and producer. The film received much critical acclaim, earning Pepe the 2006 Silver Goddess award from the Mexican Film Press, Journalists & Critics (Pecime) and it was listed as one of the top ten films of the year by Cinemania magazine.His perspective, which fuses the Latin and American experience, was recently honored in a gallery presentation at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, showcasing "Sea of Dreams" as part of "The Legacy of Mexican Cinema" exhibition."Sea of Dreams" had its US theatrical release Fall 2007, quoted by Variety as "... a rare treasure."Pepe is working on his next film "Hidden Moon".
