Perhaps his tendency toward big, flamboyant scenarios can be traced to his earlier career as a bass player for the rock group Sparks from the late '70s through the late '80s. He also worked with the Gleaming Spires and Bates Motel. As a songwriter, he penned hit songs for artists ranging from Freddy Fender to Jerry Reed. Bohem made his screenwriting debut with Horror House (1989), on which he collaborated with Allyn Warner.
