Having achieved movie fame for her performance as Ellen Foley, wife of sheriff Roy Scheider, in the blockbuster Jaws (1975), Gary felt obliged to revive the character in the two Jaws sequels, produced respectively in 1979 and 1987 (the latter picture, Jaws-The Revenge, compelled Gary to emerge from a brief retirement).
