Standing at only 4'7", Carroll's size made him a natural fit for casting as one of the Munchkins in 1939's The Wizard of Oz. However, after appearing in the little person ensemble, the actor would largely retire from show business, providing only occasional interviews about his experiences working on the film over the decades to come.
